Scientists have found seven new genetic variations that suggest that the human brain to a considerable extent, affect the problem of obesity.

Results of two international studies, published in the magazine “Nature Genetics, showed that the brain has a dominant role in the control of appetite and obesity can not be explained solely metabolic processes, transmits the BBC.

During the study samples are processed to take more than one thousand people, in order to determine the smallest genetic changes. Many of seven key alternatives for more weight are active in the brain.

This could mean that the impact of the brain to appetite and habits of nourishment greater than the influence of genetic variations that regulate the ability of the body to gathering or burning fat.

Doctor Alan Gatmaher, from the American Institute for human genome research, said that the investigations are a big step forward in understanding the ways in which the human body regulates its weight.

Professor Peter Vajsberg from the British heart Foundation believes that this can not be an explanation for the current spread of obesity, because these genes “were present for centuries, and the epidemic of obesity is relatively new phenomenon.”

Almost every fourth person in the UK have too much weight, and experts predict that this percentage will continue to grow dramatically.
